Sunday morning started out a bit
misty and cool at Barnhart, but that didn't dampen
our spirits at all! Here we are getting ready
to board the bus and start our great adventure to
Yosemite.

Not only are our students excited about the trip,
but it looks like our parents are in great spirits
too!
We hope you enjoy your week! Don't spend
too much time worrying -- your children are in great
hands.

While the students are gearing up for their trip,
Mrs. Beilstein is chanting, "Please no snow
this time, please no snow this time..."
OK, the snow was really cool (ha, ha) in 2004, but
we're still crossing our fingers that we experience
milder weather. Whatever the trip has in store
for us, we'll be ready and able!

We left Barnhart around 8:00 a.m. and traveled north
on the I-5 to Fresno. The students kept
themselves entertained along the way by visiting
with friends, listening to music, playing games, and
watching movies. As you can see, the bus ride
was a lot of fun!

Shortly before noon, we stopped at Friant Park in
Fresno for lunch. The sun had come out from
behind the clouds, so we enjoyed a warm and sunny
time in the park. After eating, and taking the
much needed restroom break, the students had a
chance to stretch their legs and run around the park
for a while.

As you can see, it's not only the kids who are
bonding as a group! This year's chaperones are
having a good time already. The Montgomery
Clan (Mrs. Montgomery, Mr. Randy Montgomery and Mr.
Greg Montgomery) is considering honorary membership
to Mrs. Beilstein and Mr. Avila...

After leaving Fresno at 1:00 p.m., we made our windy
trek into the Valley. We stopped at
Inspiration Point to catch our first glimpses of
this amazing valley, and we weren't
disappointed. Here we are posing for a group
shot (thanks to a passing tourist), as well as a
picture of our group exploring this vista.

Here's proof to my fourth graders that I'm really
here! I'll miss you this week, but I hope you
have a great week too. I'll have lots of
pictures and stories to share with you when I get
back. Be good! (and have fun too!)

We got settled into our cabins in Curry Village in
the late afternoon (we're in the hard sided cabins,
and yes Mom, the heaters work). At 5:00 p.m.
we went to the Curry Village Dining Hall for dinner,
which was quite tasty. No one will starve
during this trip, that's for sure!
|
|
After dinner we rode the shuttle bus to Yosemite
Village for our evening orientation program.
We saw a video on the history of Yosemite, and then
we learned the dos and don'ts of being a part of the
Yosemite Institute (YI) this week.
We returned to Curry Village by 8:30 p.m., and we
started to get settled for the night. The
cabin lights were out by 10:00 p.m. and everyone
seemed ready for a much needed rest.
Tomorrow morning after breakfast we'll meet our
YI group leaders and start our journey in force!
