Saturday morning was
spectacular. The air was crisp and the sun felt great. Packing
up the night before made checkout a breeze and left us plenty of
time for breakfast. Our WorldStrides hotel representative
congratulated our students on their behavior and we were off to
Arlington.
Curt’s walking tour made the
two-mile hike to the Tomb of the Unknowns fun. He pointed out
several interesting grave makers including Joe Lewis, explaining
how we came to know the famous boxer as Jumping Joe, or G.I.
Joe.
The Changing of the Guard
ceremony was a display of precision and our students were
fascinated by what they saw. Watching our Wreath Layers salute
the Tomb along side the Honor Guard of the Third Infantry
Division of the United States Army was truly moving. Charlotte,
Dillon, Mackenzie, and Nick were excellent ambassadors of
Barnhart School and we were all very proud of these fine young
men and women.
As you can see from the
photo, we posed for a group photo in front of the White House
with a copy of the Pasadena Star Newspaper, thanks to Jocelyn.
The anit-nuclear weapons demonstration was interesting as well
and Curt noted that this protester had been there
essentially 24-hours a day for more than 25 years.
Lunch at Fuddruckers was
fun and Kyle met with his Aunt and Uncle. After lunch we
visited two of the most significant sites in Washington, D.C.,
the FDR and World War II memorials. The Awaking at Haynes Point
was our last stop before heading off to the airport.
This has been a
wonderful trip! Our kids were absolutely fabulous! I’m sure
you share in our pride at being able to take 41 teenagers on a
trip for seven days and receive nothing but praise for their
behavior, intelligence and knowledge.
We appreciate the
wonderful work you have done as parents. We thank you for the
trust you gave us to take care of them. It was such fun.
David and the Gang, Sunday
evening at 6:27pm.
