Day One -- Sunday October 15, 2006

Well, it's not the day we had in mind, and the day has not ended as I write this message, but we are all safe and the kids are well feed and content.

If you hadn't heard, our United flight never took off.  We sat on board the Boeing 777 for two hours before the Captain had us disembark and they towed the plane into the hanger.  That's the last we saw of our plane but we did get our luggage back!

Thirty-two of us are flying  into the Dulles Washington, D.C. airport on an American Airlines flight from LAX while 13 more are traveling on Jet Blue from the Long Beach airport.  Those families with students flying from Long Beach on Jet Blue heard already, either from me, or Judy, Andy's mom.  Judy finished up phone calls for me as my cell phone battery is now drained.

Both planes will arrive within fifteen minutes of each other Monday morning. We've spoken with Curt, of course, and WorldStrides as well.  Curt will meet us Monday morning, about 5:30am and whisk us off to our hotel in Charlottesville where we'll get a much needed shower, and some breakfast, Then its off and running again.

We'll probably trade away our visit to the University of Virginia, but the shower and breakfast will be appreciated.  Listen for our next phone update Monday morning, sometime after 5:30am east coast time.  Look for our next daily update Monday night from our Williamsburg hotel. As I noted, my cell phone battery is empty, but the Long Beach airport had free wireless access to internet.

We are all safe, and we will stay in touch.

David, for Carolyn, Kathy, Margie, and Travis.
